Island Planetarium situated on the Isle of Wight offers a fascinating
journey through time and space; stimulating both your imagination and
your mind, with an exciting multimedia astrodome theatre and exhibition
area.
Sitting under a hemispherical dome in a darkened auditorium, spectators
see an amazingly realistic and accurate reproduction of the whole
star-studded night sky. This man-mad Universe is produced by a
central projector, which throws the image of the heavenly bodies onto
the screen dome. Computer controlled video and slide projectors add
virtual-reality impact, creating a breathtaking experience.
Before or after the show, make sure you leave time to explore the
various space-science displays, space art and computer simulations
in the exhibition area. This year, there is a new permanent
exhibition dedicated to the work of the great scientist/inventor
Robert Hooke, who was born in Freshwater in 1635.
